'Melanin is a 'Black' chemical. It is black because it can absorb energy from all sources such as sunlight, heat, UV, radio waves,electromagnetic energy, cosmic waves, etc...
It accepts and absorbs this energy and doesn't reflect anything back, hence it being 'black'.
