MAAT: Ma’at (pronounced Ma’aut) is a
spiritual concept created by ancient Africans of the northeastern area
of Africa. Ma’at means universal order, harmony and justice. The ancient
Kamites (ancient Egyptians) believed that unless a person was

My ongoing search for the 'historical Jesus' is finally coming to a close. I have been searching since my graduation from Seminary for the 'Jesus Jesus' and not being able to find any demonstrable evidence ...

WAS TUTANKHAMUN THE PROTOTYPE FOR THE 'HISTORICAL JESUS'? #1
The Pharaoh, as seen as the 'son of God', was in the service of Horus and ruled over the whole of Egypt as his servant. In this role he had to keep his people safe, ensure the adequate rising of the Nile, care for the continued existence of those in the beyond by bringing them offerings to feed on, i.e. he had to uphold the divine order of all creation. Egypt called this 'Maat'. It was, perhaps, not so much the man who was identified with Horus himself, but rather the ka of the pharaoh, which while it was the body's twin, was also an expression of the life force, more than just an aspect of his personality.


Answer for yourself: What exactly is the 'ka'?


The Ka, represented by two raised arms, is one of the many spiritual components of gods and humans. The word 'Ka' has regularly been translated as 'life-force' or 'life-energy' for lack of a better translation. In ancient times it may have referred to the 'male potency', but it soon must have come to mean intellectual and spiritual power. There is a difference between the Ka of the gods and the kings on one hand, and the Ka of the common people on the other. Where the Ka of the gods and the kings represent some kind of individuality, {short description of image}the Ka of the common people relates the individual to his or her family. The Kas of common people are there ancestors which are passed on from generation to generation. From the Old Kingdom on, the Ka is represented as a 'double' of the human it is part of, which may be yet another example of the Egyptian dualism. The Ka of the kings was created at the same time as his or her body: in the scenes representing the divine birth of Hatshepsut in her temple at Deir el-Bahari, the god Khnum can be seen fashioning the body and the Ka of the Queen on a potter's wheel. This, however, does not mean that the Ka and the body are inseparable. When the body died, the Ka left the body and joined its divine creator. The phrase 'going to one's Ka' is a euphemism for 'dying'.

The Pharaoh-king was above all the carer of his people, the representation of the Good God and the Good Shepherd, a role often also played by the God Amen (representative and symbol for this 'Invisible Creative Force or Spirit'). So likewise we must understand correctly that the Pharaoh was as the 'Son of God' only His representative and the term again was not to be understood 'literally' as if born 'virginally' by being impregnated 'literally' by God. This concept is totally debased by Christianity as you can tell as they teach that the Jesus of the New Testament is not the biological seed of Joseph. This is totally opposite from what Egypt taught yet similar in 'terms'. Basically, the Egyptians seem to have thought of their pharaohs as touched by the divine, sons and servants of the gods rather than equals of Re or Amen: they were their bridge to the gods and this 'Creative Force' we call God today. Importantly as well these Pharaohs were also the first humans to achieve eternal life after death, joining the gods in the heavens. They were in reality the 'first fruits of the Dead' as have come to think about being 'in Christ'. The Pharaoh being identified with Osiris in death is like being 'in Christ' when we die as well. Being a 'Living Horus' was like being 'in Christ' as we live. The spiritual concepts are the same. By the New Kingdom any Egyptian could hope to identify with Osiris in death as has his Pharaoh-king and thereby perpetuate the immortal constituents which were part of his being for all eternity and be resurrected from the dead as was his Pharaoh-king thanks to the rituals developed in the Old Kingdom for his kings.
We have spoken of the birth of Tutankamun so now let us now focus for a second on the New Testament Jesus. The writer of the Gospel of Luke describes the forthcoming birth of Jesus in the following terms:

Ka. Everything that existed was believed to have its 'double'. A fish or other animal had a Ka; so also had a tree; and there were spirits in water, in metals, in stone, and even in weapons and other articles manufactured by man. These spirits were invisible to all save the seers, who were able to exercise on occasion the 'faculty' which Scottish Highlanders call 'second sight'.

IN the maze of Egyptian beliefs there were divergent views regarding the elements which constitute the human personality. One triad was a unity of the Ka, spirit; the Khu, soul; and Khat, the body. Another grouped Khaybet, the shadow, with Ba, the soul, and Sahu, the mummy. The physical heart was called Hati; it was supposed to be the seat of the intelligence, and its 'spirit' was named Ab, which signified the will and desires. The 'vital spark', or controlling force, was symbolized as the Sekhem, and the Ran was the personal name.

The Ka of the first triad is the most concrete conception of all. It was probably, too, the oldest. The early people appear to have believed that the human personality combined simply the body and the spirit. In those tomb scenes which depict the birth of kings the royal babe is represented by two figures-the visible body and the invisible 'double'. The Ka began to be at birth; it continued to live on after death.


It was conceived that the Ka could leave the human body during sleep, or while the subject lay in a trance. It then wandered forth and visited people and places, and its experience survived in memory. Dreams were accounted for in this way as actual happenings. When a man dreamt of a deceased friend, he believed that his Ka had met with the Ka of the dead, held converse with it, and engaged in the performance of some Other-World duty. Sometimes the wandering Ka could be observed at a distance from where the sleeper reposed. It had all the appearance of the individual, because it was attired in the 'doubles' of his clothing and might carry the 'double' of his staff. Ghosts, therefore, included 'the spirits of the living', which were not recognized to be spirits until they vanished mysteriously. They might also be simply heard and not seen.

Nothing the European mind ever devised was meant to do anything but to facilitate the European's control over the world. Anything that you get from Europe that you are going to use for yourself, remake it to suit yourself.
Where did we go wrong educationally? After the Civil War, the period called reconstruction, a period of pseudo-democracy, we began to have our own institutions, our own schools. We had no role model for a school, ... our own role model. So we began to imitate White schools.
Our church was an imitation of the White church. All we did is to modify the old trap. We didn't change the images, we became more comfortable within the trap. We didn't change the images, we changed some of the concepts of the images, but the images remained the same. So the mis-education that gave us a slave mentality had been altered. Osho : Bertrand Russell has written a story: A priest slept one night and dreamed he had died. He went to the gates of heaven, which were closed. He was rather surprised. He had expected the doors to be wide open and God Himself waiting on the steps to welcome him. Hadn’t he served the poor and tended the ill? Hadn’t he opened schools for poor children? Hadn’t he served in the true Christian spirit? But the door was closed, and it was so enormous that he couldn’t see where it started or where it ended.

He shouted aloud, but his voice couldn’t penetrate the thick door. He banged with his hands. He banged his head against the door, but to no avail. It was just like an ant banging on your door! His ego turned to ashes. He had dreamed of a grand welcome. How much service, how much worship, how much charity he had performed; how many he had converted to Christianity, and here no one seemed to bother about him. Infinite years passed. He sat crouched near the door of heaven, which still had not opened. He had forgotten everything.

Then one day the door opened slightly and a man with a thousand eyes, each eye like the orb of the sun, looked around and spotted him – just as you would spot a tiny object with a magnifying glass. The priest cringed even more, for he thought it was God. He addressed him: ”Oh God, how your eyes frighten me, for each is like a sun. I cannot bear to look into them.” The man laughed and said, ”I am not God. I am merely a guard. What are you doing here?” He lost all courage. This was only a guard! If the guard is like this, what would it be to face God?


At last he said, ”I have come from earth, where my church is well known. I am a believer in Jesus. I am his devotee...” His courage sank further and further. The guard said, ”Jesus? Earth? Which earth are you talking about? Give the file number. there are infinite worlds. Which earth do you come from and which Jesus are you talking about? Each earth has its own Jesus.” Imagine the state of the poor priest. He said, ”I speak of that Jesus who is the only son of God.” The guard said, ”You seem to be mad!

On each earth such Jesuses are born and their devotees declare them the only son of God. Anyway, we shall find out. First tell me the number.” The poor man said, ”We know of no number. We don’t think in terms of numbers. We always thought our earth was the only one of its kind.” ”All right,” said the guard, ”then give me the number of your sun. Which solar system do you come from?” ”We know only one sun and no other,” the poor man wailed.' Then it will be very difficult,” said the guard. ”But wait here while we make enquiries.”

And again infinite years passed. The guard did not return for it was not an ordinary enquiry. It would take ages more, if he ever did manage to identify him. By this time the poor man’s ego was turned to ashes; his hopes of a grand reception remained a dream. He had planned everything: there would be bands playing, flowers everywhere and God would make him sit at His right hand. In this state of fear and agitation he awakened. He was covered with perspiration. It was only a dream – thank God! But from that day onward he lost all courage.

and so there are those there among us particularly those who live in America who believe that since we live among the top white folk in the world,they will always stay on top and they will always hand us a crust of bread.' There will always be welfare.

And yet Clinton today (Bill) is telling you, that he is going to sweep you off of welfare after two years,on it! And that one of the major programs that the republicans are crying out for ,and other people are crying out for ,for cutting' are welfare programs. If you look at some of the states across this country such as California,Michigan and other states ,you will see welfare programs, and other what we call government transfer programs ,where money is transfered from the government to people in poverty they have been declining,over the past decade or so.

Poor people are getting 'poorer' in America.' Not better in America' as a matter of fact we have as many if not more now poor people in America in as we had in the early 1970's. poverty has actually increased ,and is increasing to the point where we initiated a war on 'poverty' and the end, 1960's. when you look at the number of African American children in poverty,the number of Africa American children who live in poverty today is the same as the as the number that lived in poverty in.....1949! OK' Now this is what you have to measure sometimes by the way when you look at statistics,because some people want to say, well 2/3's of white folks were in the middle class ,and 3/4th quarters of white men are above the poverty level in earnings.

But thats not the most important measure of where we are as African 'people.' What you have to look at in terms of where you are as an African people ,are the number of children who are in 'poverty.'You see.' what number of children live in poverty stricken circumstances ,and when you live in poverty stricken circumstances you're not just living in a area where there is just absents of 'money' you're living in a area where there are absents all about 'you.'

You generally then will live in areas where there is a high level of criminality,a high level of drug addiction, high levels of prostitution and other things going on,poor educational opportunities ,poor job opportunities ,poor health care and other types of things.

And when we say people are poor,we're not just talking about people who are lacking 'Money.' we're talking about people who're living under particular conditions,that destroy the 'Spirit' destroy the mind,destroy values ,destroy out look and continue to perpetuated poverty, through the type of phycology,that is ultimately inculcated in those 'People.'

And therefore the more sensitive measure of the nature of where we are as a people of the number of our children who are living in poverty stricken circumstances.

So while we might talk about a third of two thirds of our people living above the so called 'Poverty' line'....we must recognized that almost 2/3rds of our children are living under poverty stricken circumstances,and that does not argue well for the race.

Simply because you have something does not mean that you will keep it' and this is another error,that many Black people make! They think now because they got good jobs,or you think now because you maybe living better that the world ,this is going to 'continue'

THERE IS NO UNIVERSAL LAW WRITTEN IN STONE ,THAT BECAUSE YOU AE LIVING WELL TODAY YOU'RE GONNA LIVE BETTER TOMORROW!!I freakingly criticise this myth in America',this myth that we call (the myth of progress)....Of the idea of progress.

And that is that things get better with time! so that even if they not the way we want them today they will be better tomorrow,who told you that lie? they can be worse 'Tomorrow! People don't only progress in history ! they regress in history!! empires are not only are built and grow up in history! empires do what? 'fall and collapse in histories .'

you must understand that! so simply because you may have a higher level of opportunity today,simple because you may have a higher income today ,in no way guarantees greater opportunity tomorrow ,or higher income,'Tomorrow.'

So there are those who will look at this so called progress that African Americans have achieved today and will assume then that this expansion will continue in the future,and yet a reading of our own history will demonstrate that ,that is not the case! This is not the first time Black people 'voted' this is not the first time Black people have gone to so called integrated 'schools!

This is not the first time in the history of African Americans that you had Black 'Mayors! that you had Black people sitting in the congress of the 'United States' that you had Black people sitting in the senate of the United States' that you had Black people head of corporations,or living in White neighborhoods .

You know the time that this occurred in this country? this same type of life style occurred' in the United States over a hundred years ago in the 1870's! back in the 1870's Black people were expecting to have a Black president ,a Black vice president elected any time! you had Black people in the 1870's proclaiming that THE AREA OF 'RACISM' WAS OVER!

that people would no longer be judge based on their race or background,in the 1870s........

But do you know what happen in the 1870's? BLACKS WERE 'DISENFRANCHISED'..... THE VOTES WERE TAKEN AWAY! BLACK PEOPLE WERE THROWN PHYSICALLY OUT OF STATE LEGISLATURES! BLACK PEOPLE WERE TERRORIZED,FROM THE VOTING POLLS! AND WAS NOT ALLOWED TO VOTE! BLACK HAD BEEN BURIED IN GRAVE YARDS BESIDE WHITE FOLKS BESIDE WHITE FOLKS,THEY HAD THEIR BODIES DUG UP,AND SHIP SOMEWHERE ELSE!

In other words,you see' because you are integrated doesn't mean you can not become disintegrated! and it took them 100 hundred years!!!!! up to the 1960's and 70's for Black people to re-achieve - again the things they had A (HUNDRED YEARS) before.'

So there is no guarantee, that because you have some kind of opportunities today,and because you're are making some kind of progress today that ,the progress is guaranteed to you!

Why were Black people rejected? and why were they disenfranchised? BECAUSE A GROUP OF WHITE FOLK THOUGHT THAT IT WAS IN THEIR INTEREST THAT THE BE DISENFRANCHISED!

And we are exactly in the same position 'today.' When there is a group of White folk in America today,who come to believe seriously that it is in their interest to remove opportunities from Black folks and to disenfranchise us,THEN IT WILL HAPPEN! And ladies and gentlemen it is on the verge of happening,TODAY!And we have to then keep this in mind.

Why is this happening today? for one of the major reasons it happen in the 1870's.' because in the 1870's , apart of the struggle also had to do with the economics nature of America ,and America under going recession,and America undergone depression,and America undergoing economic problems,and therefore there was a need to readjust, the racial status quo! and Black people then were a part of that readjustment! White,we believe than,and this is what i was talking about earlier.

We think then that Whites will always be on top, and therefore there being on top will is going to at lease guarantee we eat' That is a serious deception. I've talked before about the crises of White supremacy' the fact now, that there is a question as to whether WHITES will be the supreme race on this globe.'

There is being to be every likelihood that the ASIAN (CHINESE)ethnic group,will be the supreme ruling group,on this GLOBE.' particularly

IF AFRICANS ARE STILL LISTENING TO HIP-HOP AND STILL CAUGHT UP,IN MUSIC! AND ARE STILL NOT CAUGHT UP WITH THE REALITIES OF WHATS GOING ON!.....

Somalia is a country that has experienced excessive amounts of political instability during the past decade.

Somalia, like most other countries in Africa, was colonized by (EUROPEAN NATIONS) during the late 1800s. In 1887, Britain became concerned with keeping the route to India open through the Suez Canal, which was opened in 1869 and as a result Britain proclaimed Somalia as a British protectorate and named it British Somaliland.

In the beginning of the 20th century British control of British Somaliland was challenged by native uprisings. In 1910 the British abandoned the interior of Somaliland and withdrew to the coastal regions.

(ITALY) seized the opportunity to extend its control inland and took over many of the regions that the British had abandoned.


In the aftermath of W.W.II, Italy was forced to relinquish its possessions in Africa and control of Somalia was given to the (UNITED NATIONS) and for 10 years it was a UN trust territory under Italian administration until July 1, 1960 when Somalia was granted independence and it merged with the former British protectorate of Somaliland.

Somalia's transformation into an independent state was peaceful in the beginning but is soon erupted into a violent conflict. In 1969 Abdi Rashid Ali Shirmarke, Somalia's second President, was assassinated and in the following days a military coup, led by Major General Muhammed Siyad Barre, tgained control of the country. In 1970 Barre declared Somalia to be a socialist state.

Armed domestic opposition to Siyad Barre arose in 1988 in the Northern part of the country. The Somali National Movement (SNM), the United Somali Congress (USC), and the Ogadeni Somali Patriotic Movement (SPM) joined forces to fight against Siyad Barre's government. In 1990 as Barre began to lose control of the country, the local political and business figures came together to sign the Mogadishu Manifesto, calling for Barre's resignation.

Mohammed Siyad Barre fled Somalia in January 27, 1991 and Somalia descended into a state of anarchy. After Barre fled from the country the USC established an interim provisional government, which was headed by provisional President Ali Mahdi Mahammad. As of September 1991, Somalia is effectively under the control of as many as 12 rival clans and sub clans.
Somalia currently has no stable government and many of the areas of the country continue to be under self-rule with control held by local leaders. Somalia is a country comprised of roughly 7.5 million people, many of who are nomads or refugees. The establishment of a government has proved to be extremely difficult and currently Somalia remains a lawless nation.

The role and value of homosexuality in and to classical Mediterranean culture and society has only recently received significant study. Modern American society generally regards homosexuality as, at best, an intriguing subculture that often provides stock for humorists and satirists, or, at worst, a menacing counterculture that at times threatens impressionable adolescents with irreparable harm. Yet, homosexuality has not always been an aspect of 'others.' Ancient Greeks acknowledged homosexuality as an important tool in boys’ education. They institutionalized and regulated its practices within their law codes. True, opinions about it varied, but few aspects of any culture have ever stood without debate, both popular and forensic. Their homosexuality, almost universally intergenerational, resembled what modern societies call pederasty rather than homosexuality between adults. 1 It was an anomalous experiment in the education of youth.

Fathers of the middle classes and higher sent their sons to schools to learn mathematics and literacy using the alphabet adopted from Phoenicians by the middle of the ninth century BC. Students 12 and older also studied poetry, drama, music, history (after Herodotus [484 – 425 BC] and Thucydides [460 – 400 BC]) and athletics, which they practiced in the nude. Athletics included wrestling, foot races, the running long jump, javelin and discus throwing, and performance on hanging rings and parallel bars. 2 Most boys in general eagerly trained in athletics in hopes of attaining competitive levels for the Olympic games. If they could not win or compete in athletics, they may still have hoped for one of the prizes awarded for physical beauty.

At first, students learned athleticism outdoors at a dromos (an outdoor track for athletic performances). Later, schools and academies (for 'advanced' education in philosophy) built separate buildings, a gymnasium ('place to be nude'), dedicated to athletics, or a palaistra, a separate wrestling school. They also constructed viewing stands. Spectators came to watch not only regular games of competition, but also the actual training of pubescent youth and adolescents in the course of their daily education. Because women taught domestic duties to their daughters at home, viewing stands held only men, gymnasia and dromoi only nude boys. Schoolmasters cautioned naked students sitting trackside at dromoi to keep one leg forward to lessen the temptation to spectators and to smooth the sand when they stood up in order to obliterate the impression their genitals may have left. Furthermore, after their lessons in athletics concluded, boys did not wash below their navels, 4 for spectators also had access to dressing rooms, and the sight of boys washing their pubic areas would have tormented guests overbearingly. Continuing in their recognition of the appeal of young naked boys, gymnasia and palaistrae named one boy their most beautiful.


Ancient Greece had unofficial and unwritten rules enforcing decorous behavior at dromoi or in gymnasia and especially for relationships that at times started there, much as modern society has rules for how teenage sons of socialites must 'court and spark' their romantic interests. 5 Spectators normally came from the leisured moneyed class, young sons of leading citizens, for the working classes could scarcely afford the necessary leisure time. Occasionally one of those young scions of the social elite might take a favor to a particular boy in training. The young man might approach the boy after classes ended for the day, or he might send an intermediary to give his name and a message to the boy.

If the boy initially expressed no interest in meeting and getting to know the man, then the man could 'stalk' the boy, at first discreetly and silently following him from a respectful distance, gradually getting closer to him to beg him for favors. Whatever the man did, though, he must not touch the boy without the boy’s invitation or approval or, at the least, his acquiescence. Touching made the man liable to hubris, arrogant disregard of the law that led a person to mistreat another for his own satisfaction or to increase his status among his peers and betters (those of higher social class than himself). Hubris was a capital crime, and even the slightest touching of an unwilling boy opened a man to the charge. Cases of hubris brought to trial, of course, usually involved far more than slight touching.

On the other hand, if the boy showed an interest in returning the young man’s attention, the two started a friendship. The young man in such a relationship took the responsibility to teach the boy things that schools did not teach—moral rectitude, citizenship, patriotism to the polis, honesty, integrity, courage, etc. The friendship made the boy the eromenos of the man, who was the erastes (crudely, 'lover-boy' and 'boy-lover,' respectively) of the boy. Thereafter, they could appear in public and at social affairs as a pair.

The root 'eros' of both words, 'erastes' and 'eromenos,' referred to love that can have a satisfied resolution. 'Lust' comes closer than 'love' to how the ancient Greeks understood eros, neither mutual nor requited. Carnal knowledge satisfied eros of this kind. Eros also applied to, for instance, desire for victory, power, money, or returning home from travels or a sojourn. Philos, on the other hand, signified intellectual love, as for art or knowledge—philosopher—or a mutual respect between or among people, as within a close-knit family or a group of friends. Philos could be mutual and requited. 6 The love an erastes (plural erastai) felt for his eromenos (plural eromenoi) usually started as one-sided eros when he first saw the beautiful, naked boy, but at times, it developed into mutual philos after the pedagogical process had begun.


After a time of teaching his eromenos, an erastes offered the boy a gift. Exotic birds and plants were the most popular kinds of gifts, for they were rare and wondrous, expensive imports from distant foreign lands like equatorial Africa or India. Like the massive amount of available leisure time, the expense of the gift prohibited young men from lower economic classes from pursuing boys in the manner of the more financially capable. An eromenos might not accept a gift if it were not sufficiently rare or expensive.

57 Ancient Tombs With Mummies Unearthed in Egypt

CAIRO (May 23) -- Archeologists have unearthed 57 ancient Egyptian tombs, most of which hold an ornately painted wooden sarcophagus with a mummy inside, Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities said Sunday.

The oldest tombs date back to around 2750 B.C. during the period of Egypt's first and second dynasties, the council said in a statement. Twelve of the tombs belong the 18th dynasty which ruled Egypt during the second millennium B.C.

The discovery throws new light on Egypt's ancient religions, the council said.


Egypt's archaeology chief, Zahi Hawass, said the mummies dating to the 18th dynasty are covered in linen decorated with religious texts from the Book of the Dead and scenes featuring ancient Egyptian deities.

Abdel Rahman El-Aydi, head of the archaeological mission that made the discovery, said some of the tombs are decorated with religious texts that ancient Egyptians believed would help the deceased to cross through the underworld.

El-Aydi said one of the oldest tombs is almost completely intact, with all of its funerary equipment and a wooden sarcophagus containing a mummy wrapped in linen.

In 31 tombs dating to around 2030-1840 B.C, archeologists discovered scenes of different ancient Egyptian deities, such as the falcon-headed Horus, Hathor, Khnum and Amun, decorating some of the tombs.

The council said the findings were unearthed at Lahoun, in Fayoum, some 70 miles (100 kilometers) south of Cairo.

Last year, some 53 stone tombs dating back to various ancient periods were found in the area.

The people at Rationalist.war, think so.' I want to articulate their question,and you be the judge it this debunks christianity. St.Paul and his epistles to romans says that Jesus sacrificial death was required by God to atone for the original sin.'

The original sin being that of "Adams." But we know the story of Adam & Eve to be pure "fiction", although Paul thought it to be a factual story two thousand of years ago",which ultimately means, Jesus died for "absolutely" No "Reason"!

How do so called modernized Christians who reject a creation myth reconcile this fact?Why did God have to forgive our sin by sacrificing himself ,in human form in such a Grotesque manner,To write the wrongs of a person that never existed?

Evolution proves that the Adam & Eve story is nothing but at best an (Allegorical Fairy tale) since we know man do not come from a form of dirt,but from precursor "primates".... By 1835, Europeans had mapped most of northwestern Africa. Among the most famous of the European explorers were David Livingstone and Serpa Pinto[citation needed], both of whom mapped the vast interior of Southern Africa and Central Africa. Arduous expeditions in the 1850s and 1860s by Richard Burton, John Speke and James Grant located the great central lakes and the source of the Nile. 1884-1885 - Berlin West African Conference carves Africa into spheres of control
In the second half of the nineteenth century, after more than four centuries of contact, the European powers finally laid claim to virtually all of Africa. Parts of the continent had been 'explored,' but now representatives of European governments and rulers arrived to create or expand African spheres of influence for their patrons. Competition was intense. Spheres of influence began to crowd each other. It was time for negotiation, and in late 1884 a conference was convened in Berlin to sort things out. This conference laid the groundwork for the now familiar politico-geographical map of Africa.
In November 1884, the imperial chancellor and architect of the German Empire, Otto von Bismarck, convened a conference of 14 states (including the United States) to settle the political partitioning of Africa. Bismarck wanted not only to expand German spheres of influence in Africa but also to play off Germany's colonial rivals against one another to the Germans' advantage. Of these fourteen nations, France, Germany, Great Britain, and Portugal were the major players in the conference, controlling most of colonial Africa at the time.
The Berlin Conference was Africa's undoing in more ways than one. The colonial powers superimposed their domains on the African Continent. By the time Africa regained its independence after the late 1950s, the realm had acquired a legacy of political fragmentation that could neither be eliminated nor made to operate satisfactorily. The African politico-geographical map is thus a permanent liability that resulted from the three months of ignorant, greedy acquisitiveness during a period when Europe's search for minerals and markets had become insatiable.
The French dominated most of West Africa, and the British East and Southern Africa. The Belgians acquired the vast territory that became The Congo. The Germans held four colonies, one in each of the realm's regions. The Portuguese held a small colony in West Africa and two large ones in Southern Africa.
After colonial rule was firmly established in Africa, the only change in possessions came after World War I. Germany's four colonies were placed under the League of Nations, which established a mandate system for other colonizers to administer the territories.
